Introduction
Approach
Contemporary modern Chinese is a constantly changing language, which means what you learn in a textbook from the 80s might not be the same as what people are talking nowadays. It is also a very subtle tonal language, so it can get a little frustrating if you are practising all by yourself without a teacher. Language exchange is a good idea, but at times you start to wonder about the real meaning behind those sounds.
This is where systematic study comes in. I believe learning Chinese is not just about imitating the supposedly “impossible” sounds and tones. Once you learn to read the characters, you will find a whole new world opens up for you. By teaching basic radicals and characters along with pinyin, I will help you get beyond the first steps of "ni hao" and "xie xie", and show you a culture that has so much more to offer than chopsticks and misinterpreted tattoos.
