About me
I am a Chinese teacher with a Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and a freelance translator specializing in arts and literature.
I have a BA in English Language and Literature from Fudan University, Shanghai and an MA in Creative and Media Enterprises from the University of Warwick in England.
As a language trainer, I work with adult students from diverse backgrounds. My students include professors (from Warwick University and Birmingham University), teachers, entrepreneurs, engineers, and a large number of students, some of whom have chosen Chinese as their major after joining my class.
Throughout the years, I have developed a set of approaches that allow me to provide customized courses for individual needs. Having learnt English from an early age, I understand thoroughly the differences between Chinese and English, and can explain the most difficult grammar with very simple language.
As a translator, my recent works include Martha Quest, a novel by 2007 Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing, and Birdsong, a best-selling novel by Sebastian Faulks. Both books have been published by Nanjing University Press and are available on Amazon. Currently I am working on Angela Carter’s Fairy Tales, which will be finished in autumn 2010.
Other organizations and publications I have worked with include British Council, Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, Shanghai Dramatic Art Centre, Shanghai Fringe Festival, China Shanghai International Arts Festival, Yibo gallery, ShanghART gallery, Osage gallery, H+ Design, 01 Media, YongFoo Elite, Shirtflag, Vogue magazine, Vision magazine, Rolling Stone (China), All magazine, Visual Production magazine, Rack magazine and City Weekend (Shanghai).
